CLINIC Executive Director addresses Bishops’ Assembly. Calling CLINIC the “largest poor people’s immigration law firm in the country,” Anna Gallagher, executive director, gave the Bishops Assembled in Baltimore some of the history of the organization as well as current challenges and opportunities. Thousands of asylum seekers wait at our southern border, thousands of individuals qualified for Deferred Action Childhood Arrival (DACA) wait for legislation to make their status permanent and thousands of Afghan refugees remain in refugee camps for a path to legal status. In each case, legislation and legal assistance is needed and Ms. Gallagher called on the bishops to discover the needs and resources in their dioceses.
