“Archbishop Fiorenza Dignity & Life Award”. Cardinal Wilton Gregory, archbishop of Washington and former archbishop of Atlanta, received the award because of his long advocacy to end the death penalty in Washington and in Georgia. The cardinal encouraged Catholic Mobilizing Network to continue its work against the death penalty and pledged his continued efforts.
Congress heads toward adjournment. The 117th Congress is moving toward its last days with much work incomplete. Any bills that are not adopted must start over again when the 118th Congress begins in January. Inasmuch as some federal courts may terminate the Deferred Action Childhood Arrival (DACA) program in the near future, it is imperative that Congress take action to protect the “Dreamers” as well Afghan refugees, farmworkers and those with advanced degrees seeking technical work in the United States. ICYMI – 2022 General election is coming. Catholic teaching recognizes participation in public life, including voting, as a moral obligation. Absentee and early voting is permitted in Georgia but it is very important to follow the rules carefully. Election Day is November 8. Early voting begins October 17. Make a plan to be sure you can vote and exercise your constitutional right.
