Governmental policy and legislation report No.1

Welcome to change. The focus of this report over the last several years has been public policy changes and advocacy directly related to our immigrant and refugee brothers and sisters. It is now time to broaden our focus and report on governmental policy and legislation that affect the common good of all, including immigrants, refugees and asylees.

Disappointment with the Administration action on immigration reform. The Biden administration came into office one year ago amid expectations of significant immigration reform. Although President Biden has issued several executive orders reversing previous policies, the administration has not met other expectations. Immigration bail bonds in Georgia are among highest in nation. Detained immigrants and their families face high bail bonds to get out of detention while awaiting hearings. See a report from AJC.

Catholic Social Ministry Gathering (CSMG). CSMG is an annual gathering of Catholic social justice leaders with workshops on a variety of topics. Traditionally held in person, it is being held virtually for the second year because of COVID restrictions. It is not too late to register for the virtual event beginning Saturday, January 29.
